Arisu’s Past and Present

Water Quality Management and Technological Development
  • 1972 Designated and declared the entire Seoul area as a water quality conversation zone to protect the water quality in Han River
  • 1989 Established the Water Technology Research Institute and Private Sector Water Surveillance Committee
  • 1995 Conducted a study to improve the revenue water ratio in the water distribution system
  • 1996 Organized the Tap Water Assessment Committee, increased the water quality inspection items (53→127), and conducted the advanced water purification phase 1 study
  • 1998 Established the water quality inspection team, conducted water quality management assessment in each purification plant, and developed the remote meter automation system
  • 1999 Conducted the advanced water purification phase 2 study
  • 2000 Acquired ISO14001 certification, conducted tap water corrosion inspection, and developed pipe corrosion control technology
  • 2002 Conducted the advanced water purification phase 3 study
  • 2003 Seoul Waterworks Research Institute designated as a nationally certified virus testing institution
  • 2004 Started the study on membrane filtration technology, Seoul Waterworks Research Institute designated as the first nationally authorized protozoa testing agency
  • 2007 Distributed the tap water quality report to all households and implemented the Arisu quality verification system
  • 2008 Started the real-time, 24-hour Internet disclosure of automatic measurements of Arisu water quality
  • 2009 Increased the water quality inspection items (145→155) and conducted a sewage technology development study (established the Dept. of Sewage Treatment and Dept. of Sewage Planning)
  • 2010 Started the healthy and tasty water project
  • 2012 Increased the water quality inspection items (155→163) and acquired NSF (National Sanitation Foundation) quality certification for bottled tap water for the first time in the world
  • 2015 Increased the water quality inspection items (163→164)
  • 2016 Obtained the ISO 22000 (food safety management systems) certification
