According to the result of an examination conducted by NSF (National Sanitation Foundation) International in 2010, Arisu met the standards for all of the 155 water quality indicators recommended by the World Health Institution. In addition, Arisu passed all of the 167 items specified for the testing of the US EPA drinking water by international testing agencies, such as Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. (UL) and National Sanitation Foundation. As such, Arisu has been proven to have excellent water quality across the world.
1. Grand Prize in the U.N. Public Administrative Service Award in 2009
Seoul Water-Now service, a real-time online water quality data service, and Arisu quality verification system for providing free water quality inspection service to all households in Seoul were given the U.N. Winner Award in the public administration service category by the U.N. Public Administration Network (UNPAN), which targets state and semi-state-operated public organizations in the world. With such win, the transparency and reliability of the Arisu water quality system have been recognized at the global level.
2. Won the Global Water Industry Innovation Award Four Times from 2010 to 2012
With innovative performance including the world’s top-level revenue water ratio and management improvement, and by leading the tap water paradigm shift from “safe water” to “tasty water” as recognized by the International Water Association (IWA), the world’s largest water association with experts from 85 countries participating as members, Seoul Waterworks Authority won the Asian Project Innovation Award in June 2010 and Global Project Innovation Award in October of the same year. In addition, the Waterworks Research Center won first prize in the East Asian Awards in July 2012 for its integrated remote meter reading system using power and communications line, including first prize in the international award in September 2012. So far, the Seoul Metropolitan Government has won PIA (Project Innovation Award) for a total of four times.
3. Won International Business Awards in 2010
At the Stevie Awards INC., Seoul Metropolitan Government was named Product Development Department of the Year in the New Product & Product Management Category for its performance in efficient knowledge utilization through creative and knowledge management, world-class revenue water ratio, and management innovation.
4. Arisu in the World
Bottled Arisu was supplied during the 2008 Sichuan earthquake, Beijing Olympics (volunteers), 2009 typhoon in Gaoxiong, Taiwan, and 2010 Haiti earthquake. In Shanghai Expo 2010, Arisu opened a PR booth. Arisu is enhancing its image as a world-class water brand by being the first to reach disaster-hit areas and by strengthening its presence in international events.
Based on the waterworks operation experiences and excellent technologies built through the years, Seoul Metropolitan Government is supporting private enterprises that are planning to enter the global market and is also promoting overseas waterworks projects in order to strengthen the competitive power of the city’s waterworks system. At the same time, to share its experiences and technologies with foreign cities, the Seoul Metropolitan Government has established a cooperative network with overseas countries for improved international exchange and cooperation.
1. Participating in Overseas Waterworks Projects through Private – Public Cooperation
Consulting for an infrastructure development project on PMB Island, Brunei
The “Infrastructure Development Consulting on PMB Island, Brunei,” which was won by the Seoul Metropolitan Government by organizing a consortium with private enterprises in July 2012 is a project for the Seoul Metropolitan Government to perform construction and operation supervision in the water supply sector from April 2016 to April 2020. For this project, the Seoul Metropolitan Government provides waterworks construction and operation supervision service.

2. Promoting Water Supply Facility Improvement Supporting Projects in Underdeveloped Countries
Promoting the water facility improvement (ODA) project in Chanchamayo, Peru
The water supply facility improvement project in Chanchamayo, Peru seeks to improve waterworks facilities using the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s foreign development cooperation fund. The project was implemented from 2013 to 2018 using technologies and Korean materials supplied by the Seoul Metropolitan Government.

Promoting the drinking water improvement project in Hue, Vietnam
This project aimed to supply quality tap water to areas that suffered from water shortages based on mutual trust built through exchanges between Seoul and Vietnam.
Tanzania water supply facility improvement (ODA) project
The Tanzania water facility improvement project is a project to improve water supply facilities in Dodoma City and Mareu, Arusha Province after being selected by the Seoul Metropolitan Government as a project proposed by the Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).

3. Building an Overseas Network for Waterworks Projects and Strengthening International Cooperation
Providing waterworks policy training to related people from foreign cities
Each year, waterworks policymakers and engineers from cooperating cities abroad are invited to share the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s excellent policies and technologies. In addition, a training program for cooperation with the Seoul is provided.
Supporting visit by related people from foreign cities to waterworks facilities in Seoul
In case guests invited by diplomatic offices or private enterprises promoting overseas projects request a visit to Seoul’s waterworks facilities, advanced facility tour support is provided through a presentation on the waterworks status as well as programs for visit to advanced purification plants and Waterworks Research Institute in order to share Seoul Metropolitan Government’s waterworks operation/management expertise and excellent technologies.
Diagnosing water supply facilities in cooperating cities abroad using professional technical human resource
The Seoul Metropolitan Government concludes MOUs with foreign cities for waterworks cooperation, sends waterworks specialists in the engineering, water quality management, and water purification fields to examine water supply facilities in the respective foreign locations, and provides consulting service on the direction of facility improvement.
